Alexa Poteet

Alexa Poteet is a writer from Washington, DC, with a master’s degree in poetry from Johns Hopkins University and an undergraduate English degree from the University of Notre Dame. Her poetry has appeared in Reed Magazine, PennUnion, Sixfold, Lines + Stars, and NewVerseNews, among others. She was a semifinalist for SUNY’s 2015 Paumanok Poetry Award and a 2012 Pushcart Prize nominee. Formerly, she served as poetry editor for JMWW. She’s also enjoyed staff positions at the Washington Post, the Atlantic, and the National Interest.

Most recently, she won Lines + Stars' 2018 Mid-Atlantic Chapbook contest, and her first collection Carnivores was published in early 2019.

​She's fond of Bahamian records from the 1950s, ketchup, and Lolita.
